Lyophilized powder
−20 °C, desiccated, dark
Freeze-dried peptides are the most stable form and tolerate long-term frozen storage. Keep sealed and dry; ambient humidity is the main enemy. Short transit at room temperature is generally tolerated.
Reconstituted solution
2–8 °C, protected from light
Once in solution, stability drops substantially. Refrigerate immediately after reconstituting and keep the vial out of direct light. Solution stability is compound-specific — check the COA.
Before opening
Equilibrate to room temperature
Let both the vial and the diluent reach room temperature before reconstituting. Opening a cold vial draws condensation into the powder and can degrade it.
Adding diluent
Down the vial wall, no agitation
Direct the stream against the inside wall rather than onto the powder cake. Swirl gently or leave to dissolve; do not shake, which shears peptide chains and denatures the solution.
Freeze–thaw cycling
Aliquot to avoid it
Each freeze–thaw cycle degrades peptide in solution. If long storage is needed, divide into single-use aliquots at the point of reconstitution rather than repeatedly cycling one vial.
Visual inspection
Clear and particulate-free
A properly reconstituted solution is clear. Cloudiness, visible particulate, or colour change indicates the material should not be used for further work.
